The Buliding of Blue Door Electrolysis

As promised, here are some more progress pictures of the Making of Blue
Door Electrolysis!

You can see the structured got framed and windows and door openings left
and the land was back-filled up to the structure creating what you see
today as above grade windows.

They poured the foundation in April, 2007 so we scratched the date in the
foundation!

Notice the beautiful rock wall Roger's dad, Roger Sr., built! I can't
wait to add flowers and plants this summer!

BB and Neelix check out the studio!

The process had it's casualties.

Happy April - Back from Iraq

Two years ago this month my beloved Roger got home from Iraq! What a
happy day.

We are grateful that he is whole and well although it was a powerful
experience and one that will be with us for a LONG time. It's not the
kind of thing one "gets over."

Happy April!

Sarah's Hair

One year ago this month I got my hair cut off to donate to charity! I
donated it to Pantene's Beautiful Length's program which donates real
human hair wigs to women undergoing chemo-therapy for cancer.

Learn more about Pantene's Beautiful Length's program here:

Join me to support this wonderful cause!

A year later and my hair is still not at the length it was when I donated
it and I haven't had it cut since! But I don't regret it one bit and
neither will you.
I'm hoping that as long as the grey stays away, I'll be able to donate
again in a year.

The Making of Blue Door Electrolysis

Just over a year ago construction began for our big home remodelling project. This included space for what is now Blue Door Electrolysis!

Take a look at these pictures to see what Blue Door Electrolysis looked like a year ago!

Stay tuned for more pictures of the progress! It was an exciting but exhausting and muddy process.

-Sarah

The handywork of SD Ireland; under the direction of Michael Thompson of Thompson Ridge Construction make Blue Door Electrolysis rise from imagination to reality.

For a time it looked like we'd have a swimming pool rather than an electrology studio.

Why Sarah became an Electrologist

Sometimes folks ask me what got me started or interested in being a licensed electrologist. I guess it really goes back to the angst I felt as my pubescent self sprouted hair and I was at a loss about dealing with it. Perhaps that was the dormant seed that finally found the conditions it needed to bloom.

In a less existential explanation, however, my desire to pursue
electrolysis as a career really emerged a few years ago as my experience with office life just did not gel in my soul. I never could find happiness in the office environment and for a long time I figured it was simply my low woman on the totem pole status.

There I was, the recent college grad with big ideas and hopes and dreams sentenced to a life of drudgery paper pushing. I really thought that once you had a college degree you got a job and it was satisfying! I suppose for some folks, it really happens that way but it didn't for me.

So, I jumped around a bit, holding different positions at different companies in different states. As my experience built, so did my responsibility at the different companies so I had some management
positions. Then before I knew it, I wasn't a recent college grad any
longer and yet that nagging sense of dissatisfaction never left me.

It wasn't just my newbie status, it was something deeper. Oh, some of the jobs sure had their moments and I certainly learned quite a bit and got some great computer and life experience, but at the end of the day I was exhausted and empty most of the time.

Then around the time Roger and I were getting serious it hit me that I'd like to pursue electrolysis. After mulling it over and discussing it with Roger, who was completely supportive, I kept the plans on the back burner as I had a few things to do to really make it happen. Over the next few years, that electrolysis license kept surfacing as an idea, but I knew I needed to be patient (not always the easiest for me!).

Then Roger and I got married and I moved to Richmond. Our plan was to build a house, in which I would have the business. Then Roger got deployed to Iraq, I suffered horrible depression and lost my job of nearly 8 years at the hands of a sociopath business owner. During this whole stretch, I still wanted to pursue the electrolysis license, things just got put on hold for a while because I did not want to do that while Roger was in Iraq.

Then Roger came home and we decided to stay in our current house and just do some remodelling, including a dedicated business space for me. So, we put a few things in place so I could quit office work and pursue the training I needed to get certified and licensed in electrolysis.

I applied and got accepted to the premier electrolysis school in the United State, River Rock Electrology Institute. I spent about a month last summer (2007) in their intensive hands-on practical course learning all the ins and outs (no pun intended) of electro-epilation. And guess what?

I love it! For the first time in my life and I'm excited about my job! I love making a difference to my clients and I love the satisfaction of clearing an area of hair.

So, here it is! I'm a licensed electrologist with my own practice; Blue Door Electrolysis!
